With the summer temperatures rising, it’s very important that you take care of your pets properly. I know you love your dog and want them to join you in the outdoors but take these few tips into consideration.

1. Don’t Take Pets With You To Run Errands! Most of the time your dog will not be allowed in the places that you need to go which forces you to leave them in the car. A dog should never be left alone in a vehicle. It only takes a few minutes for a dog to succumb to heatstroke and suffocation. For example when it is 60 degrees outside that can result in 90 degrees inside a vehicle. And when your car is parked in the sun it’s even worse. Temperatures can reach up to 160 degrees.

2. ‘Cracked’ Windows Don’t Help! Dogs are unable to sweat like humans do.They can only cool themselves by panting and releasing sweat through the pads of their feet. Even with a ‘cracked’ window, a dog can be breathing overheated air. Within 15 minutes a dog’s body temperature can climb from normal to 102.5 degrees and above. This is a deadly temperature and can cause damage to their cardiovascular and nervous systems.

3. Help Trapped Pets! If you notice a pet left alone in a vehicle on a hot day, here are some things you can do to help them. First, note the model, make and license plate of the car. Tell the managers of the nearby stores what you noticed and you could even call the police, who may in-turn call animal control.

Azalea

Kalanchoe

Hyacinth/Tulip Bulbs

Causes: Severe vomiting, diarrhea or drooling.

Sago Palm

Causes: Vomiting, Bloody stools, damage to the stomach lining, severe liver failure and death.

Oleander

Causes: severe vomiting, abnormail heart rate, death, shock or weakness.

Lily

Highly toxic to cats and causes severe kidney failure.

Daffodil Bulbs

Causes: Vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, abdominal heart rate or changes in respiration.

Baits and Fertilizers can be harmful also, so make sure to keep these away from your pets.

I just found this website and I LOVE it! It has the cutest collars, leashes, toys and accessories for your Dog.

I really like the Sailor’s Knot Collar. It comes in a variety of colors and the buckle is the shape of a dog bone. How cute!?

Make sure to check it out!

http://www.mymascot.com

image from MyMascot.com website

Also check out http://www.urbanpup.com if you like your Four Legged Friend to sport some Bling.

On another note, while looking at one website I found a super easy to use Doggie Gate. I hate those “Baby Gates” that most of us get for our pets. I can never get them back up easily. One client had a similar gate to this one. And I LOVED IT!!! So make sure to check it out.

Hello Everyone!

This winter certainly was a busy one for me and Zoee. Nick has accepted a job at Friar’s Head Golf Club in Long Island as the assistant Pro. So he will not be returning to the mountains this summer.

But do not worry! I will be on May 10th! And I will have a new roomate, Rachel. She is a caddie at Floridian and at Diamond Creek.

My business plan for this summer is going to be focused on more advertising and gaining more clients. Not that I do not love and adore my existing clients, but naturally my goal is to grow my lil business. I am happy to donate to any local charities, events, silent auctions or I will even volunteer.

I also plan on focusing more on the photography end of my business. I enjoy capturing your pets and creating memories for you to enjoy years down the road. I am currently looking for new models so I can update my website gallery. Please contact me if you are interested in a free session. 772.418.5612

We wish everyone happy and safe travels back to the mountains. Visit http://www.takeyourpet.com for tips on how to travel with your pet.

All the best,

Happy Thursday everyone!

Zoee and I had some 2 Legged visitors the last few days. My mom and sister came up from Florida and we had a BLAST! We did some shopping in downtown Boone, where I fell in love with a boutique, Lucky Penny. I’m sure I will be going there very soon. We also did some shopping in downtown Blowing Rock. We went to Grandfather Mountain and visited the Zoo and walked the Swinging Bridge. My sister wasn’t too thrilled with that. We went Ziplining and Horseback riding and finished the visit with an amazing dinner at Artisianal for my mom’s birthday. Now we are preparing for Nick’s mom’s visit. And I’m sure it will be just as fun.
